What's My Margin?

Privacy

What's My Margin? is a prototype. This page describes what it does today, in plain terms.

The figures you enter

Calculations run in your web browser. The prices, costs and fees you type into the calculator are not sent to us and are not stored on a server by this app.

Saved scenarios

When you save a scenario, it's stored in your browser's local storage on this device only. It isn't backed up or synced. Clearing your browser data, or using a private window, removes it. You can delete scenarios at any time from the Scenarios page, and export a CSV copy.

Hosting and technical logs

Like any website, pages are delivered by a hosting provider. To deliver pages and keep the service secure, that infrastructure may process technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and timestamps, and may keep it in server logs for a limited period. We don't use these logs to profile you.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

The site currently sets no advertising cookies, runs no analytics, and loads no advertising or tracking scripts. The only browser storage it uses is local storage for scenarios you choose to save. There are no accounts and no email collection.

Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests font files from Google's servers and Google receives your IP address as part of that request.

Possible future advertising

We may in future show ads on guide pages (not on the calculator itself) to keep the tool free, for example through Google AdSense. If that happens, before any ad scripts run we will update this policy to explain what data is processed and by whom, and in the UK we will ask for your consent through a consent platform certified for that purpose. You'll be able to refuse or withdraw consent.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal data, including access and erasure. Because this app doesn't hold your calculator data, you control it directly in your browser. You can also contact the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
